Constable Emery was stationed at Downsview at the time of his death. Constable Emery was on patrol on his motorcycle when a large truck driving in front of him swerved to avoid a metal pipe which fell off another vehicle. Constable Emery was not able to see the hazard and collided with the pipe which caused him to be thrown into the path of another truck. He was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

Constable Emery had served with the OPP for over 5 years and had previously served with the Calgary Police Service. He was survived by his parents.
