Constable Kirk was posted to Hawkesbury at the time of his death. He was on highway patrol when an 18 year old driver operating a Triumph TR-3 convertible caused an accident involving Constable Kirk's marked Black and White cruiser. The vehicles collided and Constable Kirk's cruiser rolled several times killing him.

His cruiser had to be towed to a garage and cut apart in order to remove his body.

Constable Kirk was with the OPP for 9 years.

Constable Kirk is survived by his wife and two children.
