Special Constable John Starchuk was stationed at the Alexis Creek, British Columbia, Detachment Jail at the time of his death.

Starchuk was a special constable when he was murdered in the jail. Two prisoners beat Starchuk about the head with a
cement block then escaped.

The two were tried and one was sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted to life in prison.
