Constable Hicks was stationed at Sudbury at the time of his death. He had been dispatched to a call involving an attempted suicide. En route his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver who made an improper left turn at an intersection. The impact caused the cruiser to slam into a steel pole. Constable Hicks was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Constable Hicks was with the OPP for 15 years.

Constable Hicks is survived by his wife and three children.
