Corporal Aurčle Bourgeois and Constable Michael O'Leary were shot and killed after being kidnapped while making a traffic stop. The officers were investigating the earlier kidnapping of the son of a prominent businessman.

They unknowingly stopped the vehicle of the two suspects. One of the suspects was able to draw a gun and disarm the officers. The officers were then driven to a wooded area, forced to dig their own graves, and then shot and killed.

Both suspects were convicted of murder and sentenced to death. The sentences were commuted to life in prison in 1976 when Canada abolished the death penalty. One of the suspects was later paroled.

Corporal Bourgeois had served with the agency for 18 years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
