The officers confronted a man on the second floor of a three story house. A struggle ensued and the suspect somehow grabbed a gun belonging to one of the officers. Constable Cummins was hit in the neck and Constable Jones was hit in the hand before reinforcements arrived and shot the man when he aimed the weapon at them.
The suspect received severe abdominal wounds and was under arrest in hospital charged with first degree murder.
Constable Cummins had served with the agency for 11 years.
