He had stopped and was assisting a motorist with a disabled van on the Queen Elizabeth Way. A tow truck had been called and the driver of the van was sitting in the warm cruiser with Constable Gregovski.
A tractor-trailer came up the road and struck the cruiser sending it into the van and sent both vehicles over 200 feet up the sky way bridge. Constable Gregovski and the 36 year old male driver of the van were killed.
The truck driver was charged with criminal negligence causing death.
Constable Gregovski was with the OPP for 25 years.
Constable Gregovski survived by his wife and two children.
Some good came out of the tragedy. Not long after this incident, electronic advance warning signs were installed on the approaches making it safer for police assisting the public on the bridge.
