He was shot to death when the bus he was driving was riddled with bullets by members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang.
The leader of the gang was arrested in 2001 and charged with numerous counts, including the murders of Officer Rondeau and Officer Diane Lavigne, who was shot and killed in a similar ambush on June 26, 1997. One of the murderers was later murdered himself and a second murderer became an informant to help arrest the gang's leader.
