They came upon a suspect that was in Canada illegally, carrying a large amount of crack cocaine and a loaded 9mm handgun.
The suspect panicked shoved Todd out of his way and tried to flee on foot. While attempting to arrest the suspect, he managed to get free and exit the building. The two officers gave chase. The suspect first shot Constable Leone striking him in the back then at Constable Baylis striking him in the head. Although wounded Constable Leone managed to return fire hitting the suspect in the arm and shoulder. A call for help was put out and several divisions responded.
Although every effort was made, Constable Baylis died later in Hospital. Constable Leone fully recovered and is assigned to the Intelligence Unit. The suspect was convicted of First Degree Murder and is serving a life sentence.
Constable Baylis had served with the agency for 4 years. He is survived by his fiancee, parents, and brother.
