Chief Corbin and an R.C.M.P. officer attended a 'domestic' dispute which was just out of the Chief's jurisdiction and in the R.C.M.P. jurisdiction. Chief Corbin knew the offender well and had expressed concern about him many times prior to the incident.
Chief Corbin was shot once before he even got out of the car. The R.C.M.P. officer was also hit by the same blast and was rendered unconscious but lived. Chief Corbin was shot again at short range.
The shooter was placed in an insane asylum.
Chief Corbin had served with the agency for 25 years. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
