Constable Tessier was shot and killed by a man that he had stopped to assist in Gatineau, Quebec. Constable Tessier was on his way to work on embassy patrol duty in Ottawa. He was not in uniform and unarmed, but he was wearing an RCMP t-shirt. Shortly afterwards a grocery store near the scene was robbed. The suspect stole Constable Tessier's car which was later found abandoned.
