Constable Courchesne was struck at a roadblock by a Quebec Provincial Police Car involved in a high speed pursuit. The Quebec Provincial Police car was chasing a stolen car. It is believed that Constable Courchesne was attempting to remove a spike belt from a roadblock where the stolen vehicle had passed moments before. The roadblock, a joint operation of the Surete and Joliette forces was on Highway 131 outside Notre-Dame-des-Lourdes.

Police arrested a seventeen year old Longueuil resident suspected of stealing the vehicle after a two hour search of a nearby cornfield. He is being held in a juvenile detention centre until his arraignment.
