Staff Sergeant Brooke was drowned while trying to cross a river with high water in a wagon. He died at the Blackfoot Reserve, NWT.

The wagon was found the next day 3 miles from where it tried to cross. His body was found a month later two and a half miles from the crossing.

Staff Sergeant Brooke had 19 years service with the North-West Mounted Police.
