Detective Lefebvre tracked the fugitive and there was a standoff. The fugitive secured a rifle and cover of a tree. Detective Lefebvre was out in the open with just his revolver.

The fugitive escaped and went on to kill another Police Officer Sergeant John Urquhart before being killed.
