Sergeant John Urquhart was killed by a fugitive who had escaped from a courtroom and killed a police officer who had tracked him down.

The fugitive did not leave town and was discovered at his parents home. The home was surrounded. Sergeant Urquhart knocked on the door. The fugitive picked up a pistol and fired at the door hitting Sergeant Urquhart square in the chest. The fugitive again escaped but met his end a few days later when he was shot twice and was brought back dead.

Sergeant Urquhart had served with the OPP for 3 years.

At the time of his death Sergeant Urquhart was survived by his wife.
