Constable Simard was shot in the back of the neck by one of two men that he and his partner Constable Louis Lavigne had stopped for questioning.

The officers were pulling their patrol car over to question the men when one of the suspects uncovered a high powered rifle. The suspect then took aim and fatally shot Constable Simard in the back of the neck. Constable Lavigne , who was driving managed to fire 6 shots at the men before they ran from the scene.

Constable Simard was a 10 year veteran of the force.

He is survived by a wife and three children.
