Constable Bloomfield was stationed at Swan River, Manitoba at the time of his death. Constable Bloomfield and fellow officer Cst. Joseph Sander were drowned when the boat they were in encountered motor trouble in a swollen river. The boat they were traveling in crashed into a bridge support throwing the officers into the water.
