Constable Edington was posted to Warren at the time of his death. He had been on an investigation in Vernier, on January 8, 1938 when he began experiencing engine trouble with his patrol car. He had supper at a diner and left to resume work. He experienced more engine trouble a short distance from his last stop.

Constable Edington got out of his vehicle to check the engine and stepped into the path of an oncoming truck. He was taken to hospital, but died later from his injuries.

Constable Edington served in law enforcement for 12 years.

Constable Edington was survived by his mother and two sisters.
