Constable Gardner was in an accident at the corner of Main and Caribou Streets. The police cruiser was travelling southbound around 0112 hours, when it was struck by westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The cruiser was knocked approximately 200 feet sideways to the west, killing Constable Gardner who was driving the vehicle. His partner, Constable George Maxwell Parry was injured in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle which struck the cruiser was impaired. The suspect was attending school in Moose Jaw at the time of the incident. The suspect was fined $750.00 and had his license suspended for 6 months.

Constable Gardner had been with the force approximately 5 years at the time of his death.

Constable Gardner is survived by a wife and son.
