Corporal Bedard was shot with an M-1 rifle by two brothers he was chasing after a bank robbery.

The suspects also wounded a bystander and Bedard's partner, Constable Roland Gros-Louis.

The brothers were then shot and killed by Officer Gros-Louis and two other officers responding to the call.
