Detective Sergeant Larue was shot through the heart with a single bullet as he and his wife were cooking dinner in their suburban Laval bungalow. Evidence at the scene showed that the fatal shot was fired at close range from a darkened patio, through a kitchen window. His wife received facial cuts from the flying glass. There were no witnesses. Officer Larue was a 22 year veteran of the force.

Detective Sergeant Larue is survived by his wife and two teenaged children.
