Constable Thompson was stationed in Manitoba at the time of his death. Officer Thompson and three other officers were travelling to Lethbridge, Alberta to take part in a practice shoot. They were passing the airport when their car was struck by an aircraft that was coming in too low. This freak accident happened September 26, 1957.

Constable Thompson succumbed to his injuries four years later.
