Senior Constable (Tom) Thomas Coffin of the Ontario Provincial Police was shot and killed May 31, 1997 after getting off of work. Constable Coffin and other officers were at a bar shortly after getting off work when a man walked in and shot him in the head at close range.

The shooter had been charged with impaired driving by Constable Coffin in April of 1996.

Constable Coffin had been with the department for 10 years.

Constable Coffin is survived by his wife and three children, age 7, 3, and 22 months.
