Guard White was stationed at the Goderich Jail at the time of his death. Guard White was assassinated by an inmate trying to escape. The inmate was attempting to escape on December 14th, 1941.

When Guard White intervened he was hit in the head with a hammer. He was taken to hospital and released. His condition worsened and he returned to hospital on December 21, 1941. An x-ray showed that he had developed an abscess on his brain. His condition worsened and he died on Christmas morning.
