Sergeant Mobley was killed in a plane crash over a remote northern British Columbia lake. Also killed in the crash was Special Constable Tim Nicholson, 48. Both men died when the RCMP's 1985 Cessna Caravan plunged into the south end of Teslin Lake near the mouth of the Jennings River.
The crash occurred just after members of local emergency response teams were dropped off on the lake. The 17 ERT members from Terrace, Prince Rupert and Whitehorse were doing routine bush-training exercises.
Sergeant Mobley the pilot of the plane, from Sandspit, British Columbia, joined the force in 1975. He was promoted to Air Services in 1994 and was transferred to Prince Rupert from Edmonton in January.
He is survived by his wife and an adult daughter.
