Also killed in the crash was the pilot, Sergeant Edward Mobley. S/Constable Nicholson, a seven-year member of the force, is stationed in Ottawa but had been working in Prince Rupert for a few weeks filling in for the regular flight engineer who is on annual leave.
Both men died when the RCMP's 1985 Cessna Caravan plunged into the south end of Teslin Lake near the mouth of the Jennings River. The crash occurred just after members of local emergency response teams were dropped off on the lake. The 17 ERT members from Terrace, Prince Rupert and Whitehorse were doing routine bush-training exercises.
Constable Nicholson is survived by his wife and two daughters, 10 and 13.
