Constable Alain Matte died 17 days after being involved in an accident while driving his police motorcycle. Constable Matte was simply returning to the police station when a car turned left after the priority signal had expired and hit him full force. Constable Matte landed on a parked car, moving it 12 inches before hitting the edge of the sidewalk with his head just below his helmet. He spent 2 1/2 weeks in a coma before passing away.

He was a devoted police officer, a loving father and husband and a skilled motorcyclist (he had been riding since he was 14). He is survived by his wife and 2 children.
