Constable Trueman was shot and killed when he attempted to question a suspicious male. The suspect was able to make a getaway but was captured some 18 months after the murder. It was determined that the 38 year old suspect was involved in the bootlegging trade.

The first trial ended with a hung jury. At a second trial the accused was found guilty of Manslaughter. The suspect was sentenced to life in prison.
