Guard Kennedy was shot and killed by 2 gun-wielding, trigger happy convicts in a daring escape from Kingston Penitentiary, Ontario.

The pair were recaptured by half a dozen heavily armed prison guards in a swampy area near Sydenham, 15 miles northeast of Kingston. The pair had managed to get into Kennedy's car while he was on messenger duty.

One convict hid in the trunk and the other crouched low in the back seat as the vehicle pulled through the heavily barred gates of the penitentiary. Once the vehicle cleared the gate the convict crouched inside the vehicle pumped guard Kennedy with 3 bullets from behind and dumped the body onto the roadway. Two shots were fired at another guard but missed.

It is not clear where the convicts obtained the weapons.
