Constable William Lindsay was an officer in Scotland before emigrating to Canada with his wife and infant daughter. He was shot and killed in revenge by a man he had arrested for cruelty to animals. The man had vowed to get Constable Lindsay back for sending him to jail. There was an investigation into the murder, the investigators coming from Chatham, Ontario by horse and buggy. The man was tried and convicted of the murder and hung for the crime.

His wife died shortly after arriving in Canada. William remarried and became the father of 15 more children with his second wife.
