High Constable Pomeroy arrested a man who had warrant for killing a "yoke of steers" that blonged to a man with whom he had a fraud related complaint. The suspect escaped custody and fled to his uncle's farm. When Pomeroy went to re-arrest the suspect at three o'clock in the morning he was shot by the suspect. The suspect was convicted and hanged for the murder.
