The leader of the gang was arrested in 2001 and charged with numerous counts, including the murders of Officer Lavigne and Officer Pierre Rondeau, who was shot and killed in a similar ambush on September 8, 1997. One of the murderers was later murdered himself and a second murderer became an informant to help arrest the gang's leader.

Officer Lavigne had served at Bordeaux Maximum Security Prison for 11 years and had recently been assigned to monitoring convicts on the outside.
