Constable Wells was a motorcycle patrol officer on duty in the area of Hillside and Quadra on Saturday, 17th December, 1927, when he was fatally injured by a vehicle operated by an American visitor.

Constable Wells was travelling through the intersection at approximately 0030 hours when he was struck by a vehicle that apparently fled the scene. Constable Wells was taken to the Provincial Royal Jubilee Hospital, and died on the 19th of December, 1927, never having regained consciousness.

March 14th, 1928, at the Victoria Spring Assizes, the suspect, accused of driving the automobile that struck and caused the death of Constable Albert Wells, was found guilty. He was sentenced to four years in the penitentiary.

Constable Wells had been a member of the department for only two years and nine months.

At the time of his death Constable Wells was survived by his wife and 2 children.
