Superintendent Dennis Massey was stationed in Calgary, Alberta. On December 18, 2002, he was on duty and was driving from a Calgary City police station to the R.C.M.P. office at Springbank. Superintendant Massey was westbound on 16th Av, N.W. when a flat deck trailer loaded with a large propane tank broke away from an eastbound truck. The trailer crossed the centre line and crushed Massey's vehicle. Superintendant Massey was cut from the wreckage and died in hospital later.

Superintendant Massey had 33 years service with the force. He is survived by his wife, mother, a brother and a sister.
