Constable Genaille died of natural causes on Dec. 22 while responding to a call in the Popkum area and was remembered at a service in Chilliwack with an honour guard of 160 RCMP officers from across B.C. and hundreds of friends and family.
Sgt. Emil Spitkoski of the Agassiz RCMP says Genaille was a dedicated officer who spent "countless hours" of his own time working with local community groups, including the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program on Seabird Island and Chehalis and more recently in Agassiz and Harrison. He was also heavily involved with the local Army Cadet corps in organizing and fund-raising and spent more than 20 years in the Canadian military prior to joining the RCMP 11 years ago.
"He was a very community minded person. He was always willing to take on additional tasks, very committed, very involved," "He was well liked in this community." Constable Genaille was set to receive an RCMP commendation for bravery later this month for the rescue of a woman from a burning vehicle.
He is survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter.
