Constable DeLaRue was stationed at Matheson at the time of his death. Constable DeLaRue died from injuries he sustained when his cruiser struck a patch of heaved pavement, sideswiped an oncoming pickup truck and landed in a ditch. He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

He had served the OPP for 25 months.

He is survived by his fiancée.
